Julia Biggs BSc(Hons) LicAc MBAcC
Born in London, Julia was educated at St Martin-in-the-Fields High School and went on to graduate from London University with a BSc Honours Degree in Psychology.
On leaving University, Julia became an advertising copywriter, working first in London agencies, and then setting up her own successful freelance copywriting business, working for clients such as Sainsburys and Toshiba computers. After 20 years’ copywriting, Julia felt the need to do something that was not only more satisfying on personal level, but which also contributes positively to the well-being of the community. Having had acupuncture herself for many years and experiencing first-hand the profound changes it can make to health and life, Julia switched track and completed a full-time 3-year course at the UK’s leading acupuncture college – the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, Berkshire.
Julia practises an integrated approach, combining two styles of acupuncture: Five Element and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). This provides a thorough understanding of the whole range of conditions which may be affecting any individual, whether physical, emotional or spiritual. This is how acupuncture treats the whole person, not just a presenting symptom.
The goal is always to treat the root cause of ill health rather than suppressing the manifestation of the problem. Through effective diagnosis and treatment of the root cause, long-lasting relief from presenting symptoms is provided.
Julia is a member of The British Acupuncture Council and has full professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover. BAcC members have an extensive training in acupuncture, anatomy and physiology and biomedical sciences appropriate to the practice of acupuncture in the UK.
British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) members observe the Code of Safe Practice which lays down stringent standards of hygiene and sterilisation for all equipment. Members use high-quality pre-sterilised needles which are disposed of after each treatment.
Tony Brawn MA BAc MBAcC
"I've always been an acupuncturist. At least that's what it feels like - in fact I did an English degree at Cambridge before taking the giant sideways step into the strange but fascinating world that was acupuncture in the mid-1970s.
I trained in the Five Element style at the College of Traditional Acupuncture, and qualified (LicAc) in 1979, then went on to take the BAc in 1982. Since then I've trained in TCM acupuncture (the modern mainstream Chinese style) and in several Japanese styles.
What I use now is a flexible approach, drawing on everything I've learned over the last 30 years. It's very practical, and I'll use whatever works - the aim is to get you better, after all - but as I go on my practice seems to become more traditional, not less. Sometimes the old ways really are the best!
Each session takes an hour and costs £30, except for the first one which takes an hour and a half and costs £40.
I am a member (MBAcC) of the British Acupuncture Council, and observe the Code of Conduct and Code of Safe Practice. The BAcC website (www.acupuncture.org.uk) has more information about acupuncture.
I am in regular supervision to ensure that the quality and integrity of my work is maintained, and I've been a dedicated practitioner of qigong since 1990."
